The name "Sur Grès" is the true key to understanding this wine, referring to the specific soil type that defines these 100% Riesling vineyards. The vines drive their roots into the pink sandstone of the Vosges (the Grès), a poor and acidic soil that gives the wine a verticality and aromatic finesse vastly different from the limestone or schist-based Rieslings of the region.

This is a wine that thrives on freshness. Expect notes of sharp citrus (lime, yellow grapefruit), green apple, and that signature mineral drive reminiscent of flint, but in a more airy, less "petrol-heavy" style than more aged or evolved Rieslings.

The palate is razor-sharp. Acidity is the absolute protagonist, making the wine electric and incredibly thirst-quenching. With zero added sulfites, it maintains exemplary aromatic purity, finishing with a saline touch that immediately calls for another sip.

Riesling Sur Grès is the antithesis of opulent, high-residual-sugar Alsatian wines. It is a "glou-glou" wine, yet one with an aristocratic backbone. It is perfect for those seeking the pure, raw energy of the grape—no ifs, ands, or buts.

Domaine Durrmann
