Producer: Podere Pradarolo
Ex Plana 2023 Emilia IGT
Varano de Melegari, Parma
The Ex Plana 2023 from Podere Pradarolo is a bold, archetypal Italian orange wine — structured, spicy, and deeply characterful.
Made from Spergola, an indigenous grape variety of Emilia-Romagna, the wine undergoes 12 days of skin contact in concrete tanks, followed by spontaneous fermentation with native yeasts and no additions. The result is a textured, complex orange wine that feels both ancient and modern — a nod to how the Romans might have enjoyed their wine.
Expect notes of spice, pepper, dried herbs, and a hint of tobacco, balanced by ripe tropical fruit and fresh citrus. It’s expressive, layered, and perfectly captures the wild elegance that defines the Carretti family’s winemaking.

Podere Pradarolo
Podere Pradarolo in Varano de' Melegari is more than just a historic winery in the Emilian landscape; it is the story of a profound bond between man and land, cultivated with passion by Alberto and Claudia in the heart of the Val di Ceno.
"In this corner of the Parma province, our philosophy strips away the superfluous to return to the essential: we manage our vineyards with a strictly organic approach, respecting the rhythms of nature and the soil's biodiversity. Those who step through the doors of the Podere enter an authentic dimension, where hospitality feels like home and every choice — from the recovery of ancient native grape varieties like Termarina to the artisanal care of every row — is guided by the desire to leave a sustainable and sincere mark for future generations."
