Bakkanali K 2024 Toscana IGT
Seggiano, Grosseto
Explosive Sangiovese, with grit and character. A powerfully fruity, jaunty nose with a wild spirit, a green, garden-like note, and a slightly dusty retro-aroma, but so, so explosive. English cherry candy, a hint of face powder, and a distinct mineral note. A wine that rocks. A unique Sangiovese, the prototype of a true Amiata red.

Bakkanali: A Terroir-Driven Approach on Mount Amiata
Bakkanali is the brainchild of Sebastian Nasello, former enologist at Podere Le Ripi, and Ugo Fabbri, a highly innovative figure in artisan wine. This certified organic winery, currently transitioning to biodynamic certification, cultivates a total of 5.5 hectares of vineyards.
Diverse Terroirs and Elevations
The estate's vineyards boast a remarkable geological complexity, reflected in their diverse soil compositions:
- Poggioferro (Lower Elevation Sangiovese): Around the winery, the Sangiovese vineyards are named "Poggioferro" due to their high iron content in the soil.
- Higher Elevation Vineyards: As the elevation increases, the underlying rock reveals its most interesting characteristics.
- Limestone: Imparts tension to the wines.
- Volcanic Sands: Contribute a spicy minerality.
- Higher Altitudes: Refine the overall wine profile, exemplified by the Chardonnay vineyard at 800 meters.
Mount Amiata's Unique Geology
The vineyards are located on Mount Amiata, the largest and highest (1,738 meters) of a series of Pleistocene lava domes situated between Siena and Grosseto. Despite its volcanic origin, the soils have a significant marine matrix with large quantities of ancient calcareous sediments. These, combined with the volcanic sands and Fly
